Phase 2 Waterford to Knocktopher
1. Appointment of Contractor
On the recommendation of Kilkenny County Council, Ascon Limited , Kill, Co Kildare have been approved by the National Roads Authority to undertake the Main Works Contract for Phase 2 of this Road Scheme. The Contract for Phase 2 will tie –in with the N25 Waterford By-pass PPP Scheme (which is currently in course of construction by the CelticRoads Group, Waterford) at the existing N9 in Dunkitt, County Kilkenny and will proceed north to include 23.5 km of new high quality dual carriageway road to a tie-in with the R699 Regional Road to the west of the existing N10 in Knocktopher , County Kilkenny.
2. Scope of Works
The Scheme will also include 2 grade separated junctions at Mullinavat on the Regional Road R704 and Knocktopher (R699) including dumbbell roundabout at-grade junctions and realignment of the existing R704 and R699 Regional Roads through the respective junctions. In addition, the project will provide realignment of various single carriageway local roads and farm accesses at various locations.
3. Archaeological Resolution of the Scheme
A contract for the provision of Archaeological Services for the archaeological excavation of various areas within the landtake required for the project was awarded to Valerie J. Keeley Ltd., Archaeological Consultancy , Castlecomer , Co Kilkenny in May 2006. Fifty four sites in total are being resolved and this work will be completed prior to the commencement of the Main Works Contract by Ascon Limited.
4. Commencement of Project and Establishment of Project Site Office
The approved Contractor Ascon Limited will be mobilizing on site and establishing a Project Site Office during the winter months. Kilkenny County Council will shortly be appointing a Project Engineer Construction (who will be based at the Site Office) to liaise with affected property owners ,landowners and the general public.
5. Further Information Full details of the location and contact details for the Site Office will be publicised as soon as possible. Regular information bulletins will be issued from the Site Office dealing with progress on the Project and traffic management matters.
